Show OWENS' ESSAY IS AWARDED PRIZE Thomas Owens, whoso subpect was "Ths Catholic Layman," won th'c medal offered by tbs Knights of Columbus Colum-bus for the best original essay on a religious subject at the annual All Hallows Hal-lows college contest last night. The assembly room at ths college wss not Isrge enough to accommodate the crowd of . interested auditora. Each number waa attentively listened to and - the bovs.all acquitted themselves very creditably. cred-itably. The college orchestra, the junior elass choir, Morgan. Sweeney, soloist, and little lit-tle Alfie Isom, furnished muaie during the entertainment. The judges of the contest were Chsrles F. Porter, John A. Harvey aad Daniel J. Laramie. Mr. Harvey made the preasntatioa to the winner. Neil Boyle and Charles McUtll wers second and third respectively ia the contest. Each of the contestsnts was awarded a beautifully bound copy of the "History "His-tory of ths Catholie Church in Utah," by ths Rev. Dean Harris, D. D. The final oratorical contest will probably prob-ably be held May 19. In ths Salt Lake theatre. |
