Show MAKE THIS BEST LIGHTED CITY Commercial Club Committee Commit-tee Favors Uniform System; Sys-tem; "Don't Discuss Cost; Let's Do Things." Plans for a uniform lighting system for the business district of Salt Lake City, with a view to making it the best lighted of any similar district in the United States, were discussed at length at a meeting of the Commercial club -committee on parks and public improvements im-provements this afternoon. The meeting, which was at the Commercial Com-mercial club, gave an opportunity for members of the committee and invited guests to state their views on the better bet-ter lighting of the business section. It was the ronsensus' of opinion that the city should have a uniform plan of ! street and sidewalk-lighting, and that it would be a detriment to the city if each business man was allowed to place ' x whatever kind of poles and lights he I might see fit in. front of his place of business. "Let us have the entire system of lighting uniform," declared one mem-! mem-! ber of the committee, and the state ment was echoed by the others. The question of the cost of a uniform uni-form system of lighting in the business busi-ness section was raised Ev one member of the committee. This "brought forth the statement from Chairman Wey: "Lot's don't discuss the question of a little cost Let's do things. No city In the world is more favored by nature than Salt Lake. We are in a position to make this the most beautiful ciiy in the world. Let's do it." Mayor Thompson stated that ho was in favor of a uniform plan for the lighting of the city. The. matter of permitting Z. C. M. I. and other institutions insti-tutions to plaee'poles and lights of their own design was discussed at length. "If you permit one business house to place "lights and poles of their own. design de-sign ou will have to grant the same privilege to others. The result will be far from what is wanted in making this a well lighted city," declared Councilman Martin. Secretary Fisher Harris of the Commercial Com-mercial riuh addressed the committee briefly. He was in favor of a uniform system. sys-tem. "Iok at Brigham street, no city In the United States has a more beautiful beauti-ful street If a uniform system of parking was kpt up. As it Is. instead of being a beautiful street It is a disgrace, for the reason that while one man keeps up his parking his neighbor allows his plat to trow to weeds." Mr. Harris favored a I uniform system of lighting and parking for the city. At 2:30 o'clock the question was still under discussion by the committee. There Is, however, little doubt but that the committee will recommend to tha City Council that a uniform system of light-! light-! Ing be adopted.
