No word has come from the jury deliberating on the case of Stevfi Adams at Wallace, Wal-lace, Ida., but the general impression obtains that - it will not agree.;' Juror Jacob Frank, who has been ill for several days, was so much worse last night that the jurors decided to postpone their deliberations at 10 o'clock and retired for the night. Frank is better this morning and the jury is again' deliberating. Steve W. Adams was arrested in Oregon Ore-gon more than a year ago on the charge of having murdered Fred Tyler, a claim jumper, in the fit. Joseph river region of Idaho in August, 1904. "Jack" Bimpkins, ' also wanted in connection with the same murder, is still a fugitive fugi-tive from justice. Adams waa taken to the Idaho pent- ... ' r tentiary in Boise. There he was informed in-formed that Harry Orchard, in confessing con-fessing the assassination of former Gov. Steunenberg, had implicated -the Western West-ern Federation of Miners in that crime, about the plot to kill Steunenberg3nd that Adams could be brought, back to Idaho upon the charge of killing Tyler. Adams mad a confession to Detective McParland in the presence ' of witnesses, wit-nesses, while still in the penitentiary,, admitting that he had shot Tyler with a rifle. In the confession Adams also - told of the murder of Boule, another claim jumper, and of an alleged plot by the Western Federation, of Miners to "get" Steunenberg. When the case finally came to trial, Adams asserted that he had been forced to give the confession and that the detectives de-tectives had assured him ctf freedom if he would make a statement involving the Western Federation of Miners in the assassination of the former Governor Gover-nor of Idaho. Detective McParland and the witness to the confession testified tes-tified that no promises of immunity were made. This testimony was denied upon the witness stand by Adams. The ease of President Moyer, Secretary Secre-tary Haywood and Committeeman .Pet-tibone .Pet-tibone of the Western Federation of Miners, on a eharge of instigating the murder of Steunenberg, probably will come np for trial in Caldwell within a few day.. , - |
