Show II HUNDRED AT ST. DAVID BANQUET More than 200 Welsh people of Salt Lake and vicinity and their friends attended the annual banquet In honor of St. David held Tuesday night at the Hotel Utah. Among those who took part In the program were: Miss Jessie Arllne Williams, who was accompanied by Professor A. C. Lund at the piano, sang the "Jewel Sontt," Professor H. K. Giles played a medley of Welsh airs composed of old music that has lived because of ita beauty. Robert R. Williams sang In Welsh 'The Land of My Father"; William H. Folland responded to the toast "St. David" and David A. Rees responded tn the toast "Our State." "The Kingdom of Love" (Kavans) was sung hv Miss Jessie F.vans and Thaddeus Evans, after which Miss Winifred Brown gave 'The Traveling Man." by Lady Gregory. Accompanied by Professor J. J. Meridian, John T. Smith, baritone, sang "Bravest Hear' from "Faust." Miss Claudia Edward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Kdwards, sung M In Welsh. "Mother and Babies." being w accompanied by Mrs. C. W. Stewnrt. Natives of Wales in tne audience were particularly dellphted by her Interpretation. Interpre-tation. Kvan Arthur sanir. in Knglish, the "fambrlan War Song." and Miss Klesnor Hughes recited in Welsh "We-sul "We-sul Typin" l By and By). Thomas K. McKay, president of the state senate., responded to the toast of "Wales," giving reminiscences of his visit to the land of his mother's hlrth. Tredor Williams, tenor, sang "Love, Here Is My Heart" (Sllesu) and Professor B. Roland Lewis responded to the toast. "Our Country." usrhg both anecdote and appeal to inspire sentiments senti-ments of thoughtful loyalty. The guests then sang "America," and danc-Ing danc-Ing concluded the celehra Hon. |
