Show CORONER ABSOLVES OFFICER 1 IN FATALLY SHOOTING YOUTH 1 1XKO, Nev, Nov. t A coroner's Jury Thursday had returned a ver- J diet of accidental death after an i Inquest Into the fatal shooting of Orvts Mills, 22, C C C enrollee, at S Wells last Sunday. The verdict was returned late i Wednesday after the Inquest had been delayed In expectation of additional testimony from a rancher, ranch-er, at first believed an eye-witness " to the shooting, j Mills, enrollee of the Clover Val ley C C C camp, 30 miles south of Wells, was shot in the back of the head early Sunday by Night Officer R. B. Walker of Wells, who told the Jury he was firing Into the air In attempt to halt Mills, and had not Intended to shoot the victim. Mills, a native of Mississippi, had been arrested by Officer Walker Walk-er on a disorderly person charge, but broke away and was fleeing when shot. He died several hours later in the Elko county hospital. |
