Ths Mississippi Democrat has Introduced In-troduced a bill to require ths federal fed-eral government to pay annually to each county per cent of the actual purchase pries of land acquired ac-quired in that county under ths reforestation re-forestation and Bankhead-Jones farm tenancy acts, the Associated Press reported from Washington, D. C Thursday. Explaining ths measure, hs inserted in-serted in ths Congressional Record a statement disclosing the govsrn-ment govsrn-ment has bought l740vll acres in 31 statss and Puerto Rico la the reforestation program, paying $62,-445.714 $62,-445.714 for them. Hs did not include in-clude lands purchased under the tenancy act. In Utah. Coimer aald, the govern- iment has acquired S0.M acres at jifoiTof tlSUVlt for reforestation. "Unquestionably." Coimer aaid. "this act on ths part of ths govern-ment govern-ment Is going to rebound to the benefit of the country as a whole. "Under the provisions of the present legislation by which ths government acquired these lands ths counties are to rsceivs 25 per cent of ths gross receipts from timber tim-ber and other assets sold by the forest service from the lands. "Ths difficulty about this is that In most Instance the gross income from such sales is negligible, due to ths fact that ths lands were largely denuded of all timber at the time of their acquisition by ths government. "This provision under statute would be ample remuneration to the counties In 25 years from now, after the timber has developed, but the immediate difficulty is that there is no provision mads for ths ad interim period before this timber reaches a merchantable status."
