They deserve a great deal of credit for their success in both business and civic activities. Their main interests have always al-ways been devoted to the welfare and building up of a greater Salt Lake City and they have contributed contrib-uted more than their share towards to-wards that end. Archie and Ivan Tobias are wholly deserving of our sincere praise and these few words of commendation are but a just recognition re-cognition for the many activities they have conducted on behalf of the general welfare of the community. com-munity. We trust they continue to serve Salt Lake City and vicinity vic-inity for many years. o MARK AUSTIN It is appropriate that we include in-clude in this review of progressive progres-sive Salt Lake City business men Mr. Mark Austin, Sales Manager of the Sunbeam Corp. He is a good and loyal citizen and the full measure of his loyalty is most apparent because of his willingness to aid community activities. ac-tivities. His help along these lines has made of Mark Austin a fine example ex-ample of the type of man we all appreciate. We congratulate and extend to him. on behalf of all citizens interested in better business busi-ness and civic progress, sincere appreciation for his contributions to the general welfare of Salt Lake City and vicinity. o LeROY and JOAN TAYLOR A city grows and prospers by reason of the public spirited men and women who take an active interest in the development. Salt Lake City has its share of these progressive and civic minded people and two who are deserving deserv-ing of recognition are friendly, likable LeRoy and Joan Taylor, owners and operators of the Stork Set Maternity Shop, located locat-ed at 2311 Highland Drive. Their business ability, coupled with a sense of obligation to the public and a sincere desire to be of service have been major factors fac-tors in maintaining the Stork Set Maternity Shop in a prominent position in the business life of the city. They have not only in their business activities ' but also in their attention to civic duty assumed active parts in community commu-nity affairs. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor have always al-ways been ready and willing to contribute their time and energy to the promotion of any project which promises to benefit the intermountain in-termountain area. They have often of-ten sacrificed their personal interests in-terests to be of assistance to the city. Their efforts are deserving of commendation and support. We congratulate LeRoy and Joan Taylor on their past successes suc-cesses and predict that the future fu-ture will bring them even greater great-er success. " WARREN J., GERALD B., and Wm. HIGGS In every community there are a number of citizens who can be pointed out as having taken a three-fold part in the onward progress of their city. Three well known business men of Salt Lake City who belong in this category are Warren J., Gerald B. and Wm. Higgs, who are the executive execu-tive heads of the Sun Rae Sales Co. Inc. Their leadership in their line of business is recognized through out the entire intermountain area. And their furtherance of civic activities and support of those organizations, whose main objectives are directed along lines lin-es of civic betterment is well known to their immediate associates. asso-ciates. We congratulate Warren, Gerald, Ger-ald, and Bill Higgs for being good citizens, progressive business men and boosters of their home town. CHRIS E. ATIIAS Mr. Chris E. Athas, owner and operator of the Success Pharmacy where pharmacy is strictly a profession pro-fession and not just a side line, is that progressive type of citizen citi-zen who, because of the nature of his business and the progressive progres-sive manner in which he manages man-ages it, is widely known and has many friends throughout the entire en-tire intermountain area. He has in the past, and no doubt will continue in the future to give more than his share of time and energy for the welfare of others than himself. Mr. Athas is the type of man who makes friends and friendships friend-ships once formed by him , are never broken by an unfriendly act on his part. Furthermore he spares no effort in order that his services to the people of Salt Lake City and vicinity shall be commendable. Mr. Athas has ' never been known to inject himself into a situation for the mere purpose of gaining publicity. However, he proceeds in a calm unostentatious unosten-tatious manner, and accomplishes accomplish-es his objectives with a quiet dignity. In our opinion Chris Athas is a good example of the more progressive type of business busi-ness men who are aiding in the growth and development of Salt Lake City. 1 IHARLESA. SNARR Due to the efforts of a group of wide awake business and professional pro-fessional men Salt Lake City has attained a dominant position in the commercial life of this section sec-tion of the intermountain empire. em-pire. Two of the men who have justly earned credit for being progressive members of that group are Messers. M. D. and T. J. Snarr of the Tilene Installing Company. It is because of the successful operation of such businesses as theirs that Salt Lake City has earned the reputation of being one of the more progressive communities com-munities in the intermountain states area. The Snarrs are men who have been conspicuously successful in spite of the fact that they have often neglected their own affairs to devote a part of their time and efforts to the successful promotion promo-tion of some civic project. It is considered a privilege td include M. D. and T. J. Snarr in this Salt Lake City review and to publicly give them credit for their success in business and for their many contributions to the general welfare of their city. ADRIAN D. Mr. Leitz probably has as wide a circle of friends as any other man we could name because he is just naturally the kind of a man who makes friends with almost al-most everybody and is at pains to conduct himself in such a manner man-ner as to deserve the respect and good will of all who know him. A city is fortunate in being able to number among its more progressive pro-gressive citizens business men of this type. He may be depended de-pended upon and his services to the people are too many in number num-ber to be described here. It is sufficient to say that we consider Bert Leitz an asset to the community com-munity and a progressive business busi-ness man of whom his city may be proud. j GLEN ASTIN In mentioning some of those men who are taking a progressive progres-sive part in the evolution of the business and civic life of Salt Lake City we would be censored censor-ed if we failed to include Mr. Glen Astin, manager of the Town Locker Market. Mr. Astin is that solid type of citizen whose fairness and friendliness friend-liness and sincere desire to be of service are accountable for a large measure of his success. As time goes on his personal interests inter-ests have become more closely interwoven with the business and civic affairs of the city. As a result re-sult he has, quite naturally become be-come accepted as a man who can be called upon and who will cheerfully do his part to further the development of those community com-munity activities to which he is best fitted to lend assistance. In connection with the foregoing staterrTent we wish to mention and pay tribute to Mr. Si Rogers, well known Salt Lake City commercial photographer. Mr. Rogers has proved very ably that he is a photographer of more than average ability, for it is largely due to his progressive progres-sive methods coupled, with his sound and practical ideas that his studio holds its high position in the public's opinion in the intermountain in-termountain area. He has made his business a "hobby" with the result that he is today one of the more popular photographers in Salt Lake City, giving to his patrons pat-rons an excellence of artistic service ser-vice seldom equaled. It is true also that Si Rogers does his share toward community commu-nity improvement and has given freely of his time and energy to the promotion of those enterprises enterpris-es which have benefitted the city at large. We are glad to voice our praise of a man who is successful success-ful in his own business and who also has time to give to community commu-nity development. r FRANK C. TORKELSON There are many men in their chosen fields who have gained recognition for the progressive manner in which they have conducted con-ducted their business and accepted accept-ed their civic responsibilities but who will not permit much to be said of their achievements. It is however, public property every time a man reaches a position in any community where he is generally gen-erally recognized as a leader in his line. In reviewing a group of such citizens we must include Mr. Frank C. Torkelson, well known Salt Lake City Structural engineer, engi-neer, and a man who has always done his work effectively even though it has been accomplished in an unobtrusive manner. Mr. Torkelson, busy as he is, always manages somehow or other to do his bi,t in any movement move-ment calculated to benefit the intermountain area as a whole. His modesty, however, will not permit him to say the things a-bout a-bout himself which are said by his friends, who would also tell you that his professional conduct con-duct is a credit to his high sense of honor. We do not hesitate to recommend recom-mend Frank Torkelson to our readers as a citizen who continues continu-es at all times to work to the advantage of the people of Salt Lake City. ALBERT C. MOLLERUP Mr. Albert C. Mollerup, has proved his progressiveness by constantly adding to and increasing increas-ing the service which the Top Notch Service Station has rendered rend-ered to the public. The large volume vol-ume of business handled by his station proves that "service" to him is not just a "word" but something to be rendered to the people to the fullest extent of his ability. In addition to his close attention atten-tion to his business affairs, Mr. Mollerup was never a man to dodge his civic responsibilities and his help in those matters has always been cheerfully given. He fully appreciates the value of good will and has more than his share of that intangible commodity com-modity because of the manner in which he meets both business and civic obligations. He is a credit to the community and is thoroughly established in the forefront of the business and civic life of the city. Albert Mollerup has many friends in and around the city and it is a pleasure to bring him before our readers in this review of progressive Salt Lake City business men. KEITH W. NORRIS In paying tribute to some of the more progressive business and professional men of Salt Lake City we would be remiss in our duty should we fail to include in-clude Mr. Keith W. He is a man who has contributed contribu-ted generously to the welfare of his city and the community for many miles around. His civic spirit is evidenced by the many services which he has performed and continues to perform in the interest of the people as a whole. A policy which has and continues to build up good will for the Style Electric Co., throughout the intermountain area. Mr. Schilperoort is deserving of praise and this small tribute is but a just recognition for the many services which he has performed per-formed in the way of both business busi-ness and civic activities. We congratulate John Schilperoort Schilp-eroort on his splendid record and trust that he shall continue to serve the people of Salt Lake City and vicinity. - . CHARLES T. S. PARSONS Salt Lake City has assumed its place of importance throughout the intermountain area because of the efforts of far-seeing business busi-ness and professional men who have developed the natural resources, re-sources, or in some manner extended ex-tended the trade advantages, of the locality. One of the men who has taken an important part in many progressive movements is Mr. Charles T. S. Parsons, Pres. of the Rex Industries Inc. Mr. Parsons has devoted a great deal of his time and energy to the growth and development of his city and this district and it is fitting at this time that we attempt to express in some small way .our appreciation for his unselfish un-selfish contributions to the general gen-eral welfare of the community. His many friends admire and respect in him those virtues that promote confidence and inspire good will. His upright business methods are but an outward reflection re-flection of his inherent appreciation appreci-ation for fair practices. The splendid food and service supplied to the public by Vorhees Vor-hees Petty and the Trail Cafe in the past is the best indication of what may be expected of them in the future. Greensides the credit he so well deserves for his achievements achieve-ments and to wish for him a continued con-tinued successful career as one of Salt Lake City's more progressive progres-sive business men. H. L. and HENRY L. THOMAS When a city like Salt Lake City has gained recognition for being the metropolitan center for many square miles of the surrounding country, it is because of the foresight fore-sight of those pioneers of earlier days who had the vision to realize real-ize the possibilities of their home town and who also had the ability abil-ity to work for the fulfillment of that vision. And Mr. H. L. Thomas, Pres. of the Thomas Electric Co., is a man who belongs be-longs in this category. Salt Lake City owes much to those pioneers of earlier days, but each succeeding generation must produce its share of business busi-ness and civic leaders to assure the continued growth and prosperity pros-perity of the city. It is also the purpose of this review to call the attention of our readers to some of these present day leaders and in this instance ELLIS CRANE and T.
