Show Sports Here and There by Al Ablett Last weeks games went a little more to form. Tooele just had too much height for the locals. This boy Rupp, a real big fellow, scored scor-ed 18 points. Taylor played a good game for the Miners while he was in there but five of the boys left the game via the foul route. But as I have said before, this league is too evenly matched for anyone to pick a winner. The Miners travel to Grantsville tonight to-night ((Friday). The Cowboys have been tough to take in their own corral. Cyprus plays Murray Mur-ray and Judge takes on Tooele. Utah took a big step towards winning the Skyline championship champion-ship by taking the Wyoming Cowboys in both games last week end, and not to be outdone by the Redskins, the BYU Cougars beat Wyoming Monday night in more impressive fashion than did Utah. So this sets the stage for the all-important all-important series between the Utes and Cougars this Saturday at the field house, and Monday night at Springville. I pick Utah to win both games, but don t go out on a limb for the Monday night game, because in the Springville gym those boys from Provo are rough. The big difference differ-ence in the two teams i sPeter-son; sPeter-son; Utah's coach, and Gardner at center. By way of a tune up Utah took Pittsburg 65 to 44 Wednesday night in a game that saw Peterson use every man on his bench. The Pitt team in no way resembled the great Panther teams of the past. Teams that had the great Chuck Hyatt, and were good enough to beat the one and only Golden Bobcats of Montana, that had Brick Breedon, the' Ward brothers and "Cat" Thompson Thomp-son playing as a team. Next Monday night Keith Nuttall takes on Napier from San Diego in a ten rounder at the cbloseum. Napier has a fair record re-cord according to Ring magazine, and according to California fight fans, is a better than fair club fighter. Nuttall has finally severed sev-ered all connections with Henry Armstrong and will be handled by his own father from now on. Henry evidently took his cut of the Herman fight and proceeded to see if he couldn't put the Dis-teblerys Dis-teblerys on an overtime basis. After having wrapped his automobile auto-mobile around a telephone post, he tried showing the Los Angeles police how he won all those championships. He lost that decision. de-cision. So from here in Nuttall will do business without him. They have a boxing, commission commis-sion bill before the Utah state Senate, introduced by Sen. Mitchell Mitch-ell Melich. Everyone in Bingham knows "Mitch" as he was born and raised in Highland Boy and went through Bingham high school. I don't know how familiar famil-iar he is with boxing and wrestling, wrest-ling, but we do know that he will try and have a good bill. From what a read in the papers, it sounds OK. Will let you know more about it when I have read it through. This we do know, it is something that Utah has needed need-ed for a long time. If the commission com-mission that is set up is the right one, the fans at long last will receive re-ceive some protection, at the same time, I think it will protect pro-tect promoters as well. See you next week. AL. |
