Show Oakland Gives Budge Tribute OAKLAND. Cal.. Sept. 28 (UP) Oakland's officialdom turned out today to-day to welcome home J. Donald Budge, the city's prodigal son la ths rsalm of tennis who won the world's most Important amateur tennis titles during his last trip to Europe and eastern United States. Budge was due at Tracy, 40 miles east of here, at 8:30 a. m en route from Los Angeles. At Tracy he was to be met by an escort of stats high-wsy high-wsy patrolmen. The cavalcade will move Into Oakland, where a parade line was to await It. The parade will move downtown to the city hall, where at noon Budge will be officially welcomed by Mayor W. J. McCracken. Budge played a major role In regaining re-gaining the Davis eup for America. Then he captured the all-British championship at Wimbledon. Later he won the national title at Forest Hills In an historic struggle with Baron Gottfried von Cramm of Germany. Ger-many. At Los Angslas Budge won the Pacific southwest men's title. He came north to see his family and compete In the Pacific coast tournament tour-nament at Berkeley Tennis club. |
