Show 4 GROUPS HOLD ANNUALPICNICS Fair skies smiled on hundreds of picnickers at near-by resorts Friday as four organizations held their annual an-nual eummer outings. Saltair was the picnic spot for the 520-voice L. D. S. tabernacle choir and the Cambrian association of Salt Lake City, while Danes from Utah and Idaho gathered at Lagoon and Republican district chairmen met at th Box Elder amphitheater in Mill creek canyon. Taking a complete holiday from their strenuous rehearsals and regular regu-lar radio presentations, the choir enjoyed a dinner, bathing and dancing danc-ing as guests of the choir management manage-ment They did not sing one song. Welsh Festival President of the choir is David A. Smith of the presiding bishopric of ths church. Chairman was Lon Fisher, assisted by Charles Hyde, Charles Bitter. J. Spencer Cornwall, John R. Halliday and Frank W. Asper. Contrasted to the outing of the choir, the Cambrian association celebrated Its forty-third anniversary anniver-sary with a festival of Welsh music. Featured were the 25-voice Venecia ladies' chorus, conducted by George C Lloyd ; the L. D. 8. male chorue, under the direction of George H. Durham; Miss Nancl Maddocks, Harold Preiiiikh Demo ene Harry Clark, soloists. Approximately 2000 persons joined In community singing, conducted by E. J. Kirkham, accompanied by William H. Coles on the organ. 100 Danes Gather Outing of the Danish brotherhood lodges of Utah and Idaho attracted more than 1000 Danes from the two states. Address of welcome was delivered de-livered by H. M. H. Lund, president of the Utah brotherhood and Danish vice consul, and the main speaker was Joseph Petersen, former president presi-dent of the Danish L. D. 8. mission. Chairman was Hllmar W. Hansen, assisted by H. P. Hansen, Salt Lake City; Chris Petersen, Brigham City, and Einar Nielsen, Ogden. Politics were barred from the program pro-gram of the Republican district chairmen and vice chairmen at the Box Elder amphitheater in Mill creek canyon Friday evening. The Republican county committee sponsored' spon-sored' the outing, which featured a barbecue dinner. |
