Show VOICE OF THE PEOPLE By Teleojram Reader Writer Thinks City Head More Traffic Policemen Editor, Telegram: It seems to ms that one class of eitlasns Is exempt from th traffic laws which th rsst of us havs to obey. I refer to ths taxi drivers. It has beea my observation that these drivers do Just about as they plesss without ever hearing hear-ing a traffic cop's whistle. They go through red lights, they make U-turns where such turns are forbidden, they change lanes at will, they usurp ths pedestrians' right of way at downtown Intersections. Inter-sections. Ths only thing I havs .never seen them do Is to speed. I'll give them credit there: they certainly know and obey ths speed lews. Now I don't claim that ths rest of us drivers ars perfect. Far from it There are probably more jerks driving in Utah per capita than In any other state. But what I do ssy Is thst when ens of us evades ths traffic law there is a remote underline ths remote, plesss possibility that ha will get a ticket However, a taxi driver hss a cinch that he won't In a similar situation. This started out to be a gripe against one-elded enforcement of the traffic laws, but it Is turn- -Ing into a complaint of poor enforcement en-forcement of those laws all around. Just note ths number of traffic cases on ths police court docket each day and then compare It with the number of traffie violations you sss in 12 hours. I think you'U agrss that th laws aren't being enforced any too well. What's ths reason? rea-son? rm not sure, but I think it might be that we do not have enough traffie cops. T. L. L, " ' salt Laics.
