Show Utes Say 'Howdy' in Bang-Up Fashion By SHIRLEY HOSKINS Historical Hello walk, cog that Connects buildings of the main campus together la the semi-' semi-' circle of a Ute wheel, buzzed with activity this week. One again gate of the old walk war flung open wide to welcome horde of students back to a first week of classroom activity ac-tivity and aa exciting Hello week celebration. Cries of "Whar's your lvUT", "Howdy podnuhl", and "Nail ne for a pal" resounded through-cut through-cut the campus as enthusiastic Redskin followed the active program set up by Hello week chairman. Ken Smith and hi committee. Among the many vent elated were mud relays, aa assembly, the traditional sack rush between freshmen and sophomores on dimming field, and a Cement Mixer dance at the Union ballroom Friday night The sack rush Friday provided a treat exceptionally novel. As per custom the sophomore class was given an edge over their competitors and when the rush started hopes were high. Gunny sacks filled with straw were placed In the middle of Cum-mings Cum-mings field and opponents lined up on either side. When "go" was sounded both sides rushed to the center to carry the sacks to their goals but the frosh were taken by surprise when two sophomore climbed from underneath the center of the pile and started to the sophomore soph-omore side loaded with sacks. Wb Woa After much scuffling and stealing of each others' sacks, sophomores were victorious . . , no, freshmen. It was finally decided de-cided that although the fresh-; fresh-; men may have won legally, the sophomores did have a slight ; edge over them. So the sophs : won. Well, you figure It out! Tying In with the construction construc-tion them of the week, the dance attracted a large part of the crowd where square dancing " "under the direction of Dr. N. Freshman queen Barbara Bo wen presided over the dance royally. 8igma Chi George Romney Rom-ney squired the pert miss. Queen attendants Beverly Clark and Pat Williams reigned also, escorted es-corted by Farrell Col ten and Laury Hunsaker, respectively. Dancing was great and the decorative touch of an Nionest lnjun' cement mixer gave Ute intermission fun! Daaes Time Once again the Ute favorite dance spot Rainbow Randevu, was really electrified when the Beta took over Friday night Don Edens, A del Maya, Gordon Gor-don Jensen, Babe Turner and Basil Vetas with Arltn Star-borg Star-borg had fun dancing to the music of the old Glenn Miller band. Also saw Dick Campbell, ' Helen Marshall, Pre Dunn, Car-len Car-len Smart, Rex Morgan, and Rosemary Holden looking as though they liked Mr. Beneks muchly. Keith Herman escorted sweet Sue Bradford and Bob Morrison Mor-rison was seen . entertaining Diane Nicholson. This Saturday Kappa Bigs will Invade the Rainbow when 20 fellows and their partners tax i In the Beneke show. I Cliff Chadwick, Barbara Neil- son. Fraternity row officially opened last Monday night when chapter dinners were initiated for the year. Tri Delta had a fun time welcoming new housemother, house-mother, Mrs. Emily Eldridge.
