Show Levis Recants Proposal 01 Strike Fund WASHINGTON. Oct. 19 (INS) John U Lswia Wednesday withdrew with-drew his proposal that ths United Mine Workers, ths CIO and the A F L Jointly set up a S2.5O0.0O0 fund to aid the United Steelwork-era Steelwork-era strike. Lewis, who originally advanced the suggestion last week aa major strikes by the mine workers and the steel men were going full blast acted after A F L President William Wil-liam Green declined to Join the venture. Lewis, in a somewhat bitter frame -of mind, wrote Green that in view of the A F L chief's attitude atti-tude "I am too busy to continue a fruitless discussion." Lewis declared: de-clared: "Tou have Justified my Judg-ment Judg-ment I did not think you would do anything. You didn't You rarely do. Unfortunately, you follow fol-low invariably your well-known policy of anxious inertia. You cry aloud for labor peace and labor security, but seldom do anything to achieve it "I note you are going to Europe with nine of your associate executives. execu-tives. While there, doubtless you will adjust the European situation. When you adjust it satisfactorily and have returned to your own country, I msy write you again." Lewis signed the letter "Very truly yours." |
