Show UTAH EX-SHERIFF KlllEDJtTBOULDER LAS VEGAS, Tab I (UP) Boulder dam added another victim to its construction con-struction toll today when M. 14. Kalghn, (0, of Eureka. Utaa, former sheriff of Juab county, was killed In a rocksltde while working la a penstock pen-stock tunnel. Mora than 100 tons of debris fell from the face of tha cliff and buried him. A fellow worker, Harry B la lock, aa electrician, warned by tha roar of tha avalanche, was able to leap to safety and escaped with minor Injuries. Kalghn was bom In Salt Lake, February Feb-ruary It, 1M1, a son of Colonel M. M. Kalghn, prominent Salt Lake attorney. at-torney. Ha was educated In Salt Lake schools and when a young man, enlisted en-listed In tha Spanish-American war, serving with tha American forces during dur-ing tha Philippine Insurrection. From 1916 to IBIS he served as paymaster pay-master for tha Salt Lake water department de-partment and in 1911 was sent to Italy aa a Red Croas worker. Ha returned to Utah the following year and settled set-tled In Eureka where ha entered the restaurant business. Ha was elected sheriff of Juab county In 1915, serving serv-ing until KM. Ha had been employed at Hoover dam for tha past year. Surviving are hit widow, Goldle Cook Kalghn; three daughter and a son: Mary Elizabeth, Anna Lee. Helen Lou and James M. Kalghn, Eureka, and a stepmother, Mrs. Efiie M. Kalghn, Bait Lake. |
