In the Senate a resolution from the City Council of Os3en, asking that an act be passed empowering that city to condemn and purchase waterworks was referred. - Several new . bills were Introduced, among them one to require smelters to put in smoke-consumers, and another making nine hours a day's work for street car conductors and motormen. "When the Senate was called to order this afternoon at 2 o'clock a bill for sn act to make County Sheriffs lire-stock Inspectors waa introduced by Senator Johnson., - It imposes upon each County Sheriff the duty of inspecting all horses, mules or cattle which are driven or shipped out of the State from his county, and makes the removal of such stock previous pre-vious to Inspection a misdemeanor. It Is also provided that the owner of horses, mules or cattle about to be removed re-moved from the, State must notify the Sheriff In writing three days before the moving of the stock, and specify the time- and ' place of loading or driving. The Sheriff must furnish the' owner a certificate of Inspection and keep a public pub-lic record of all stock inspected. . Violation of the act Is declared a misdemeanor mis-demeanor punishable by a fine, of not more than $300, or Imprisonment not exceeding ex-ceeding six months, or both. ; Senator Johnson said this afternoon that the purport of the bill was- to prevent pre-vent the stealing of cattle- in the range sections of the State.
