Martin, principal of the Grant school; presented a plan of pensioning aged Indigent school teachers at the meeting of the principals of the city schools held late yesterday afternoon. A committee consisting of Superintendent Superin-tendent Christensen, J. H. Coombs, W. W. Barton, William Bradford,-. W. S. Wallace, F. D. Keeler. Miss Etta Powers Pow-ers and Mrs. E. V. Frits, with 'A. S. Martin as chairman, was appointed to consider the proposal' 1 , - ". As soon as the principals have decided on a mode of pensions, the matter will be taken to the teachers and then the School board. ' . ; - - Mr. Martin's proposition is to Incorporate Incorpo-rate the teachers under the State laws. The corporation's income will be 1 per cent of the salaries of the members. Membership will not be compulsory. No member of the corporation, or union, of three years' standing can be -v ....-, discharged 'without trial. Upon retirement they shall be entitled to a salary equal to one-half of their average annual salary for the preceding pre-ceding ten years,- no. salary, however, to exceed f 600. . v Members who have .been contributors ! for five years or who. have taught In the city schools for ten years and are incapacitated for work for a period exceeding ex-ceeding four months of the school term shall be eligible to sick benefits on the following basis: . Membership, 5 to 10 years, one-sixth of present yearly salary; membership, 10' to 15 years, one-fifth of present yearly salary; membership ' 15 to 20 years,' one-third of present yearly salary; membership, 20 to 25 years, two-fifths two-fifths of present yearly salary; membership, mem-bership, 25 to . retirement, one-half of present yearly salary; provided, no sick benefits shall exceed $600 per annum, an-num, and two such benefits shall terminate term-inate upon the ability of the recipient, properly certified to by the health physician of the Board of Education, to resume active employment either as a teacher or In some other remunerative capacity. The board of control shall be authorised author-ised to receive money and other forms of value from the - percentage from salaries, from bequests or donations or from entertainments or other lawful source of income. |
