' Bishop Empey was born in New York Etate, May 7, 1837, and was one of the arty Utah pioneers, coming here with ' iiiis father In 1848. He was a minute man in the early days and re- s ponded to many calls for - expeditions sent out to battle with Indiana In 1891 he . was ordained bishop of the Thirteenth ward, which position he filled with loyalty lip to the time of his death. The deceased was a respected and successful suc-cessful business man. He was one of the Stockholders in the firm of Clark. Eld-redge Eld-redge & Co. During his middle life he was for many years a clerk Id Zlon's Co- operative Mercantile Institution. For the past three years he had been president of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Manufactur-ing society, and previous to that was the vice-president of this organization.
