James Steveneon of this city was run over and. killed in the depot yards here Saturday Sat-urday night by Rio Grande passenger train No. S. It Is thought that Mr. Stevenson threw himself In fiont of the train with suicidal Intent, though there was no one near to see the act. He has been drinking heavily of late and was very despondent. His body was badly mutilated. James Stevenson was born In Edinburgh, Edin-burgh, Scotland, June 20, 1815, and was 78 years old. He went to Australia In 1863, during the gold excitement. Coming Com-ing to Utah in 1885 he located here, following fol-lowing his trade of baker. It Is related that Stevenson, who was a warm personal friend of Bob Fitcsim-mons, Fitcsim-mons, the pugilist, gavt tbat worthy his first lesson in boxing. The) funeral will be held In the L. D. S. meeting-house at 2 o'clock Monday. |
