Show HIS BRIDE BrMcgroom : Wanted the Names "Scratched Out" of Certificate. WICHITA. Kan.. Dec 7." 'Tls better to have loved and lost than never to have lost at all," is the only consolation consola-tion left J. O. Salisbury of this ilty, who has the unique distinction of having hav-ing been a fond and expectant bridegroom bride-groom in the morning and an "alfalfa" widower In the afternoon. On a recent Friday morning there appeared ap-peared at the home of the Rev. W. T. McLean, pastor of the South Lawrence Avenue Christian church, J. O. Salisbury Salis-bury and Miss Millie Ferguson, both of Wichita, who expressed an ardent and burning desire to share together life's Joys and sorrows; to establish the bouse of Salisbury. In the mind of the worthy minister there appeared visions of a fat wedding fee.' The bridegroom-to-be procured the necessary credentials from Probate Judge Enoch and the Rev. Mr. McLean pronounced the words that gave these young people the right to eat the same kind of breakfast food for ever and aye. As a fitting climax to the otherwise beautiful ceremony the bridegroom gave the officiating clergyman one lonesome c?ln of the 16 to 1 denomination, thinking, think-ing, perhaps, that he had been well paid for the time required. On Monday, when the bridegroom called at the parsonage of the customary custom-ary marriage certificate, he told the Rev. McLean that the new Mrs. Sails-bury Sails-bury had refused to partake of his Joys and sorrows longer than the afternoon of their wedding day, and that he desired de-sired the minister to "Just scratch, it out," as they had decided to call It all off, and in the future it would be but a memory-of fleeting Joy too fleeting. In fact, to be at all real. The minister hurried hur-ried to explain that they were nevertheless; neverthe-less; very much married, and nothing but a process of law would relieve him of the burden of hta unwilling spouse. The disappointed bridegroom seemed to regret the matter very much and especially espe-cially the $1 investment, and left the parsonage wearing that "trifled with" expression. |
