Show WITNESS DISAPPEARS; HOBEIK'S DOG WON OUT "The Mystery of the Disappearance of the Prosecuting Witness ; or How Ho-bein's Ho-bein's Dog Won Out" was the title of a two-act comedy played in Judge Dlehl's Police court Friday afternoon. Louis Hobeln had been arrested several sev-eral days before on a charge of keeping a vicious dog. The dog is a beautiful and valuable Great Dane, highly prized by its owner, and warranted by him to be as gentle as a lamb. The case against Hobeln was called several day9 ago and set for trial Friday. Fri-day. A few minutes before court convened the prosecuting witness announced to City Prosecutor D. O. Wllley that he was ready to go on with the case. Then the court was called and the case was taken from the table. Hobeln was ready to go ahead, but the prosecuting witness was not. He had disappeared. A policeman was sent in search of him, but he could not be found. Then the court had its inning. "Because of the absence of the prosecuting prose-cuting witness, who knows that this case is set for trial at this time, the complaint Ip dismissed." Hobein was not tried. The dog will not be executed. j |
