Show MEMORIAL IS KILLED Idaho House Rejects tbe Resolution Opposing: Tariff Revision. BOISE, Ida., Jan. 20. The, first political ! discussion of the present session of the Idaho Legislature occurred Thursday over the anti-tariff revision memorial presented pre-sented by Senator Nugent of Idaho county, coun-ty, and for the first time In the history of the State, a branch of the lawmaking body acted in direct opposition to wbat has come to be regarded as the desire of a President of the same po'Itlcal faith as the majority of the body. By a viva voce vote, opposed only by- the two Democratic members. MacBeth of Cutter and Russel of Elmore, the memorial was adopted. When the memorial reached the House It was stabbed to death unceremoniously. As soon as it had been read, Goodnight of Nes Perce moved that it he rejected and returned to the Senate. Several then Jumped up to second the motion. It was expected there would be prolonged debate, de-bate, but the members were not at all In a talkative mood. The motion to reject was. without discussion, unanimoubly carrie. The House joint resolution was adopted for a committee of five to examine the insane asylum at Blackfoot. the State academy at Pocatello and the reform school at St. Anthony. The committee Is composed of Representatives McKlnlay. Thomas and Moore and Senators Way-roan Way-roan and Lewis. There was a lively tilt In the House over an adverse report on the eight-hour bill. The majority of the Immigration and Labor committee reported in favor of its passage. The minority asked that it be referred to the Judiciary committee to be Investigated as to Its legality. After a prolonged fight on the floor the minority report was adoptedN This action is regarded re-garded as tantamount to sounding the death knell of all proposed eight-hour legislation. The bill admitting veterans of the Spanish war to the Soldiers' heme was accepted in committee of the whole, after the amendment to Include Indian war veterans had been withdrawn. |
