Show I.!aycr. llcrrb U ca tho Wbt Trcdu Mayor Morris makes some valuable suggestions in his first annual message which was presented to the City Council last night From the standpoint of the householder, the Mayor's attack on the light trust is the most Interesting part of the message.. The Telegram is pleased to see that a Mayor who is not afraid of the light octopus is in power and ready to act if the "municipal chief is in earnest and means what he says in his recommendation that the electric light company be brought to terms and compelled to furnish the quality, of light the Salt Lake public pays double for. "It is well known that the electric light company is, or seems to be, not only giving a much poorer light, but, it is alleged, is raising the reading of the meters and thereby subjecting the people to not only an inferior light, but is compelling them to pay a much higher price for a much poorer light," declares de-clares the Mayor. I These are serious charges. They mean, if they are true, that the- people are being systematically held up. From time to time we hear such charges. WbuldA't it be the proper thing, under the circumstances, circum-stances, for the Mayor to demand that the City Council take up the matter and make a thorough investigation? in-vestigation? - ' It is evident that a screw is loose somewhere, and so long as that screw is loose the people will be assessed to pay the damage. , Mayor Morris Is on the right track, we say. Now let him continue his good work by arranging for an investigation of the light trust |
