Inquiry Into .the affairs of the failed cotton king, Dan Sully, for the purpose of determining deter-mining whether Edwin Hawley and Frank Ray were partners in Mr. Sully's business, began yesterday. The investi-gatiop, investi-gatiop, which is in the natui of an examination-and check-uo of Sully's books, promises to be long-drawn-out. Mr. Sully, it was brought out, used to take bis own share of the profits before sending Mr. Hawley his share. A number of 'Jolnt three" accounts fHawley, Sully and Ray) for the latter lat-ter part of February, nearly fdl representing rep-resenting heavy sales, were read off by Mr. Root. Mr. Hawley said there were ovher transactions for "Joint three" accounts, dated February 24th and 27th, some-' thing over1 lO.OoO bales, which netted a profit of $149,000. Mr. Hawley said that he did not take his profit from these transactions. They were "credited k to bis account." It developed during the ' examination that the first transaction. Mr Hawley bad .with Mr. Sully was in September, 1903, when he loaned Sully Individually $70ojoo on securities. - |
