Nine members' of the senior and Junior classes at Tale, who came here Saturday to- play whist against Columbia, had a more lively time than they expected before they finally caught the midnight train, for New Haven. They were chased up Broadway by an alarmed hotel proprietor proprie-tor and. finally stopped by a policeman, who emptied his revolver in the air. It was all because they wanted to go home on the ll o'clock train and started for it so near the hour that it was a case of sprint or lose. They missed. After defeating Columbia in the af-. ternoon they continued1 playing whist In the evening at the Victoria hotel and were so interested that they did not notice no-tice the time until 10:45. They got Into their overcoats" m a jiffy. nd dashed pell-mell down the .stairs. The last of them had his overcoat tucked under his arm and Jt looked as if he was concealing conceal-ing something. The proprietor of the Victoria was sure his house was being robbed and -shouted! after the fleeing students. The porter took up the cry and started after them. Others fell into his. wake and gave volume to the shouting. Finally a patrolman pa-trolman came along, drew his revolver and began shooting in the air. .Then and not until then did the card players play-ers stop. ; The porter and policemen rounded them up and led them back to the hotel. It' took but-a minute to explain ex-plain and there was no end of apologies. Meantime, however, the tl o'clock express ex-press was whistling for Mt. Vernon.: |
