Show TWO MEN ROBBED IN NOTORIOUS AMERICAN HOUSE; 5 ARRESTS MADE was in one of the rooms at 3 o'clock this morning, a woman took his purse, which contained $100 in gold, and abstracted ab-stracted $20. after which she replaced the purse in his pocket. He assorted that the woman brought two glasses of beer for him and his companion, after which she left the room, returning in a few moments to rob him. Two women who live in the house, Lizzie Clark and Mabel Irvine, were arrested by Sergeant Eddlngton and Patrolman Smith. The American house, No. 15 Commercial Com-mercial street, the scene of many recent re-cent crimes and tradgedies, where three men have met with violent deaths within the past few months,' occupied the undivided attention of the police and detectives today. Besides the sudden death of C. R. West, who fell from a third-story window win-dow and was killed, two robberies were reported from the same house this morning. C. F. Johnston of Lehl reported that he had been robbed of $65 between 3 and 4 o'clock this morning. Johnston was drinking with a party of men in the Star saloon, which occupies occu-pies the ground floor of the American house, when he alleges that one of the men of the party put his hand in his pocket and abstracted. $63 in greenbacks. green-backs. The money was passed to a Second man, who was relieved of it by the third, who left at once. . As soon as Johnston made his loss known, Cne of the three men who are' said to be Implicated, said that if Johnston John-ston had been robbed and was penniless he would give Johnston $5. Another of the men thea offered Johnston $20, both which offers were refused. Johnston's story was corroborated by two of , bis friends, who accompanied him to the police station. One of these, J. W. McLaln, a discharged United States marine, who Is on his way from the "Iowa" to his home in Cedar Rapids, la., stood behind Johnston John-ston and saw the robbery, as did Edward Ed-ward Harrison of Lehl. Three arrests were made by the police po-lice on this case, from descriptions furnished fur-nished by Johnston and his friends. J. H. Clark, his brother, Albert Clark, and Z. Graham, all of whom live in the American house, .were arrested by Patrolmen Pa-trolmen Fulster and Sperry. The second person who said that lie had been robbed was Quong Hing, a Chinese laundryman, of 63 East Third South street, who declared that a woman wo-man In the house had filched 320 from him. - i , The laundryman stated t&at while he. |
