Show UNIVERSAL TRAINING. We advocate-tbe adoption of universal training In the highest Interests of the- nation na-tion aa a civil community and not on military mili-tary or imperialistic grounds. We bold it to be the prime duty of tbe state torenderMts members good cit liens, and wa believe that auch military training. as we desire would tend to mske our young men better citizen in every respect. We do' not wnt to encourage en-courage tbe aggressive or brutal . Instinct in men. . but we bold, without the slightest doubt or misgiving, that a man cannot call himself "full a -nan," or have a complete sense of self-respect, self-reliance and independence inde-pendence unless he knows bow to defend himself and hie home and country in case of Imminent need. Just as we oblige men to learn how to read and write, ao wa would oblige tbem to learn how .to shoot and tn act together..- But having learned, we would not compel them to use their knowledge either of reading -or writing or of military defense. . Training should be obligatory, but service voluntary- Spectator. - |
