Show auto route to death Valley Salt LaKe ,Man Establishes First Automobile1 Ronte to Penetrate This Part of the Country. t ' C. -V. Gilmer, a Salt Lake mas, is to have the honor of operating . the first automobile route to Death Valley. Today To-day a forty-horse-power PopeToledo machine is on its way. over the Salt Lake line for Amargosa, ,2fev the point from which it will depart aaily in the future for the wilderness.. The rente will lead from Amargosa for a distance ef fifty-four miles to the famous fa-mous Greenwater copper, district in the Funeral mountains. . The projection of this automobile route by Mr. Gilmer is the outcome of the traffic condition over the last fifty, four miles into the Greenwater district. dis-trict. The Southern Pacific and the Salt Lake lines are both reaching out toward this rich territory. The San Pedro intereats hare reached a point only fifty-four miles away at Amargosa. From this point the travel into the new mining region has grown to -enormous proportions recently.-- A rush prevails to such an extent that although extra staging facilities sre being introduced intro-duced and additional teams a r arriving continually no pretense can be made at handling the inflow of mining people. The automobile will .accommodate from elx to eight passengers and will run dailv. It is the first machine of the kind to "disturb the solitudes of Death Valley. |
