Show tunes taken vout for years to come by the companies that have gone Into the camp and secured a footing. Mr. Field. says that there seems to be no limits to the 6re zone in the Ely dlgslns, and while the biggest showing has been made by the larger companies com-panies that have acquired an immense acreage of ground and put on a large force -of men that are literally, tearing tear-ing the heart of the earth out lri their eager desire to uncover the wealth of mineral, there are eome of the smaller operators that are making good headway head-way and will assuredly come out on top, with a good bank roll to their credit as soon as the district Is placed In direct communication with the outside out-side world by means of the railroad. " Opportunities In that section of Nevada, Ne-vada, still await people In all walks of life. Is the opinion of Mr. Field, though he does not advise any one to go to that country who la net willing to give the district a chance to show something some-thing of what Its future prospects are. To the men of am&ll means there will be opportunlttu: in several lines f business, - while the -: bankers, merchants mer-chants and real estate operators have already become established fixtures In that locality. , Building has been greatly retarded because of the long wagon haul for lumber that wm imported fror the business centers. Hotel - accommodations accommoda-tions are still verj limited, and th fare Is the beet that could be expected under existing conditions. A great many of the old-timers have drawn down hundreds of thousands of dollars from their holdings in the mineral belt, and are still making Ely their home. They have considerable interest in the future of the town and surrounding country, and. they will take considerable consider-able pride in seeing the town built up. This fact seems to -rfssure a number of fine business blocks for the town, while the mining men that will make it their homes and the older settlers who have fortunes at their command will build fine homes. Ely will assuredly be a good town as well as the center of a great mining Industry, with great smelters and Immense reduction plants.. ; NEVADA COPPER COMPANY. - . - ' In the light of the Increasing de- ' mand for copper there Is an unusual amount of interest manifest in this , '- character of ore wherever it is found. I : and a great many of the mining districts dis-tricts of this country are being ex-- ex-- plored to a greater depth where the formation is shown to change, and the ores are very often shown to contain a large percentage of the red metal. -. During the early days the Idea of . mining for copper never entered the minds of the pioneers of the Ely, Nev., district, according to E. I. Field, who has Just returned from a careful research re-search of that section of the country, coun-try, and who had no hesitancy in saying say-ing that what he saw in the properties in that district has been a revelation to - him. despite the fact that he has spent his entire lifetime in the mining busl-' busl-' oess, and is at the present time heavily engaged in a number of properties In -.Colorado. Mr. Field has carefully suveyed the territory In the Robinson mining district, dis-trict, In which Ely is located, and says . that it is almost impossible to realize the tonnage of copper ore that have been blocked out In the numerous - shafts ' and tunnels that have been .j-., opened up In the Nevada Consolidated f- and the Cumberland-Ely ground, as well - as other parts of that district -1 that are being rapidly developed as con-dltlons con-dltlons will permit Another feature of the situation is the fact that there seems to be miles of the copper-bearing V ore from the grass roots down to the 'depth-that has been explored below - the surface, which is from 400 to 600 feet snd while the grade of the product thus far Is quite low. there can be such a large tonnage of the . ' product converted to a commercial basis ba-sis by the new processes that are in Vogue that there will be Immense for- |
