Mr. Heywood's letter , is as follows: George Sutherland, Senator, Sir: In your speech at the Salt Lake The-.. The-.. 1 ater last night you accused me of helping to elect Bead Smoot to the Senate Sen-ate and. said that I then betrayed him vand stuck a dagger into his heart. - When you made that statement you personally knew that you were uttering . a deliberate falsehood. You know perfectly per-fectly well, for I have talked this situation sit-uation over with your immediate associates; asso-ciates; and political lieutenants, both before the election of Bead Smoot and since. : They knew that I was unalterably unalter-ably opposed to him, because I believed be-lieved it a crime" against tha people of this State to elevate to the Senate an apostle of the Mormon church. I opposed op-posed the candidacy of Beed Smoot from one end of the State to tha other. oth-er.
