Show mm syndicate mm mm TOiWMl 10 ELY Prospects for New Line Revive Report of Probable Building of a Road From Salt Lake to Ely, Making Direct Route to the Gold Fields ot Nevada. The sur-eing of a railroad line from Tonopah to Ely Nev., presumably in the interest of the rock syndicate lends color to the belief that men of finance are considering consider-ing seriously the construction of a road from Salt Lake to Ely, thus forming a new and direct line from Salt Lake td the gold fields of Nevada. " ' are now building from GoMfield lnt Bullfrog, and when the Ely line is fin ished they will have a continuous line from Bhyolite into the big White Pin county metropolis. Salt Lake's Opportunitr. Salt Lakers may view this situation with favor, and it is logical to believe that eventually somebody will build direct line from this city to Ely.' Then it will be possible to iourney direct vi Ely, Tonopah. and Gofdfield to the Bull frog region, and there .will be within, the easy control of Salt Lake about as prolific a field for commercial expansion expan-sion as any city in the West rejoices in. And whether the direct line talked of is ever constructed, the next best possibility possi-bility is that the Western Pacifia (which erosses eastern Nevada north of EIt) will build a branch into that district. Salt Lakers rosy then reach, the big Xevada camps more quickly and easier and. economicallr than at the :nreent. JWrr-Broekts" there fore ' ftm"--. Indications are that Ely is to have an outlet direct to the big southern and western Nevada gold camps. Surveyors Sur-veyors are in the field running a line eastward from Tonopah via Hannapah, Stone Cabin valley, Warm Springs valley, val-ley, Railroad valley, Kaiser's Springs, Currant creek and White river. . By this route the distance between Ely and Tonopah is about eighty miles, according- to the reports of the engineers engi-neers who have already gone over it and. made first reports to the headquarters headquar-ters of the Tonopah & Goldfield Railroad Rail-road company, the head man in which is John W. Brock, the Philadelphia millionaire. Other stockholders are the same people tha hold largely in the Tonopah Alining company. - ' "t Built Tonopah goad. Brock ami bis Philadelphia allies built-the road as a necessity for preserving pre-serving their interests already developed devel-oped in the Tonopah mine. Tbey were suspected of having delayed the payment pay-ment of dividends out of the. mine, arid of having diverted the moneys received from Tonopah ores, to the payment of bills. for this railroad construction; but the venture proved such a success that none of the mine stockholders entered much of a protest after having seen the advisability of their leader's policy. Boad Fays for Itself. The Tonopah railroad paid for itself in five months, and then in three more months enabled the Tonopah Mining company to pay its first dividend of 25 cents per share. That railroad is now earning enormously, and the line between be-tween Goldfield and Tonopah (owned by the same people), which, was opened to traffic a little over one vear ago, is also paying. Therefore, none knows better than Mr. Brock that railroads in Nevada are first-class investments,-and he rralrws that the development of the rich resources re-sources between Ely and Goldfield will afford a very large future revenue. For business reasons, furthermore, it will be advantageous for the Brock peopl to have a line into Ely. They |
