Show - TEEZS. v Possibly by reason of some mysterious defect In the national character Americans Ameri-cans seem to have little appreciation of the value of trees. The destruction of forests has gone on - apace for many years, and even now 'that the absolute necessity of -protecting- the remaining tracts Is generally recognised, It Is only with great difficulty that legislation to this end is secured. Although the establishment estab-lishment 'of Arbor day has been regarded as an effective means for cultivating the appreciation of trees,, there Is still nothing noth-ing like the sentiment there ought to be against their wanton destruction.
