Bembers of sereral New York clubs were not only treated to the spectacle of a man giving his best efforts to win a bet, but were witnesses of a storm which came near turning the contest into a tragedy. Vingut was riding past the three-quarter pole, galloping freely on a fresh horss when a bolt of lightning struck the pole and shattered it. HeyWas only ten feet away. Mr. Vingut rod continuously continu-ously for forty-three and ond-half miles on one relay. It took the rider thirteen hours and thirty-nine minutes from the time he took bis first mount to complete the 100 miles. He was on the ground three times. ... i, DRAPERS LOSS GAME.
