Show RAILWAYS IN INDIA. The Railway Age gives some railroad data from India. Profits from the roads to the GoTernmnt last year were 2,000,000. The India Government Govern-ment has determined to spend on railroads 10,-000,000 10,-000,000 annually for the coming two years. One-l One-l alf of this sum is to increase the rolling stock and renew old lines,, the other half to build new ones. The total mileage thus to be constructed amounts to over 3500 miles, which will bring the total m"'ft age open by the end of 1909 up to something like 31,500. The increase In the traffic has made apparent appa-rent the great deficiency of all kinds of rolling stock, engines, passenger coaches and freight cars. The above indicates that there is a vast market iu India for railway goods, as there are no facilities in India proper to make rails and only inferior facilities fa-cilities for building locomotives and rolling stock. .' |
