Show COMPROMISE ON jSTATEHOOD BILL Arizona and New Mexico Allowed to Decide Combination. WASHINGTON, March 28.-That the 8enate and House will, reach a compromise-agreement on the Statehood bill, which will permit Ariaona and New Mexico each to decide for themselves the question of their admission as one State, seems a correct conclusion from present indications. :v The conferees met today for the second timet and while the session was. devoted to what are termed the minor amendments, amend-ments, there are indications that a baels of agreement on -the chief question l suggeetlng itself naturally and will result re-sult in the restoration of Arizona and New! Mexico to the bill with the Foraker amendment, and Inquiry among the Senators Sen-ators who opposed the original House bill indicates that they .will accept this compromise. ....... - |
