Dr. Joseph Silverman made a plea tor the endowment of a theater wherein the Actors' Church aJBa nee majr carry out it Idea of high dramatic presentations. "The stage," continued Dr. Silverman, "Is but an outgrowth of the pulpit, a part of the paraphernalia that belonged originally to tha dramatic presentation of religion. The church has failed In Its opposl- tlon to the theater, as It always will fall when It opposes the natural desires. The theaters never could -have succeeded it they bad not sat- lsfied a -craving and longing of the human soul. The church is not perfect, neither is the theater, bu t both are great agencies for good." g)(S g |
