Show BROUGHT DOWN BY SPRAIN, HOT BULLET Patrolman William H. Leaver, one of the new men on the force, had an experience Saturday night that tested his nerve. Michael Riley and David Williams had been arrested by Detectives De-tectives Shannon and Raleigh on a charge of having robbed David Bruers In Commercial alley. In front of the police station Riley bolted for freedom. Leaver pursued him, and at First South and State It looked as though he would make good his escape. Leaver drew his revolver and fired in the direction of the fleeing man, who fell to the pavement as though dead. Leaver ran up to him and said, "Are you dead?" "No, I ain't dead, and I'd have been going yet if I hadn't sprained my ankle," surlily answered the prisoner, as he was bundled off to jail. |
