Klfkham, directors In tho Provo River Reservoir compnny, met with the farmers of Alpine regarding their taking tak-ing water from a now high lino caunl. Tho iarmors showed a most, kindly disposition toward tho project and expressed ex-pressed a willingness to subscribe for wnter. Tho project contemplates a hjgh lino canal skirting tho foothills from a point back of Alpine to the Point of tho Mountnin, northwest of Lehl Junction. It will covor nll"the land between tho foothlllB nnd tho Bull River ditch nnd which contains 'approximately 'ap-proximately 3,000 ncrcs of tho best laud In tho stnto. A canal will- bo taken out to the south nnd cast of Alpine for about 500 acres that does not .have any wnter wnt-er at prcsont. Tho wntor that will fill theso canals will bo that which formerly camo to Lehl, also to tho lands under tho Bull River system. Lehl and Bull River will bo supplied with water from Provo Ca'nyon, which supplies a large surplus up to tho early part of July, when Lehl and Bull River ceases to get any water from the Alpine streams. Thte will give tho now land only nn early, wntor right, but it will bo sufficient to maturo nil grain crops and ordlnnrl'y two crops of alfalfa, Tho price to bo charged tho farmers at presont will be $35 per acre. This exchange will help both Bull River nnd Lehl, as tho two systems will not only have the samo nmount of water measured to them at a point lower down that is taken out at a point higher up, thus saving n large amount of loss from seepage and evaporation, evap-oration, but Lehi will be benefitted by soepago from tho now tract being irrigated, irri-gated, and Bull River will bo greatly benefitted from tho run-off "of tho long narrow tract Juat above their canal. Much of tho new lnnd to be irrigated will bo tributary to Lehl and will bo a material addition to our present Ir-rTgatcd Ir-rTgatcd area. |
