Show GALENA DAYS PROVES TO BE A BIGJUCCESS Colorful costumes of the old west, the atmosphere of an old-time old-time mining camp, predominated predominat-ed in Bingham Canyon's two-day two-day celebration of Galena Days, Utah's most famous celebration, Friday and Saturday of last week, when vast crowds assembled to witness all events staged in commemoration com-memoration of the pioneers of Utah's mining activities. Children's Contests lrvin Stillman, assisted by Herb Babcoek, Harold Nielsen, Ray Carl and Bob Carter began the children's contests, pie eating, eat-ing, watermelon eating and apple ap-ple eating, at 10:30 a.m. Spiking and Drilling Tom Carrigan, chairman of the spiking and drilling contests, announce an-nounce winners, first place in spiking went to Don Millet and Art Paredes. In the drilling contest con-test Johnny Pollock, first and Alfred "Swede" Nelson, second. The Galena Days committee wishes wish-es to thank Utah Copper company com-pany for equipment and materials mater-ials used in these contests and the fine cooperation given them in making a great celebration. Soap Box Derby The Soap Box derby, under the chairmanship of W. V- Robinson, Ro-binson, was a great derby held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The derby started at Bingham hotel and ended at the post office. of-fice. Three heats were run with the third heat determining the winner. In the first heat, Sammy Robison, first, with Billy Klo-nizos Klo-nizos second. In the second heat, Billy Rawlings, first, and Jay Sorenson, second. In the third and final heat Sammy Robison first and Billy Rawlings, second. Beard Growing Competition in the beard-growing beard-growing contest ended Saturday evening at 8 p.m. on the Bingham Bing-ham Merc, porch- The judges awarded $10 prizes to the following fol-lowing men: Ray Buckle, reddest; red-dest; Eugene Aceto, whitest; Harvey Wolfe, shaggiest; Carlos Torres, best groomed and Sam Cabibi, blackest. Costume Harvey Wolfe, chairman of Galena costuming, announces the winners of the judging, which took place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on the Bingham Merc, porch. Women's costume prizes were awarded to Mrs. Elmo A. Nelson, and Mrs. Albert Trujillo of Bingham, Bing-ham, Mrs. W. B. Inglesby, Tooele Too-ele and Mrs. Lynn Peterson-Judges Peterson-Judges for the women's division were Mrs. Stan Jacques, Mrs. R. A. Murano and Mrs. J. Dewey Knudsen. Men's costume prizes were a-warded a-warded to Dale Johnston, Vic Mattson, Jack Lindseth and Leonard Strand- Judges for the men's division were C. E.
