Show NO BAIT FOR FISHERMEN toYcrnmcnf of Newfoundland Newfound-land Revokes Bait-Purchase Agreement. HALIFAX, N. S., March , 25. The business interests of Halifax, Lunenburg Lunen-burg and other Nova ScoUan ports are intensely interested in the situation which as been created by the Newfoundland New-foundland Government revoking the bait-purchasing privileges enjoyed by United. States fishermen. ' ' ' Some of the Nova' Scotia newspapers indorse the action of the Newfoundland Government, and place the blame for the present difficulty upon the fishermen fisher-men of Gloucester, Mass., by whose influence in-fluence it is declared the United States Senate practically nullified a treaty which had been drawn up by Secretary of State Hay and Premier Bond of Newfoundland. It is pointed out that the Interests which brought about the existing unpleasantness un-pleasantness are also the chief sufferers. suffer-ers. A peculiarity of the situation Is the fact that a very large proportion of the men tn the Gloucester fleet consists con-sists of Nova Scotians. If the action of- Newfoundland should prove serious to the Gloucester fleet it is said more Nova Scotians than Americana would feel it. |
