WASHINGTON, March S.-Senorf Don Manuel do Aspiros, Mexico's first Embassador Embas-sador to the United States, died yesterday afternoon at the Mexican embassy, sur-ronnded sur-ronnded by members of h!sXamny, aged 419 years. Although a sick man since last fall, the Embassador's death was due to a relapse caused by exposure on Inauguration Inaugu-ration day. Against the advice of Ills physicians, Senor Aspiros left his sick room and attended the inaugural ceremonies cere-monies at the Capitol, where he came near fainting. For many years the Em-bessador Em-bessador has suffered from gastritis and 1 this weakened his heart. His death this afternoon was unaccompanied by suffering. suf-fering. . Senor de Aspiros left his law office to enter the Mexican army and rendered, gallant gal-lant service in the uprising of his country coun-try against the French Intervention, rising ris-ing from Second Lieutenant to Colonel. Alter the fall of Queretaro he was appointed, ap-pointed, prosacuting attorrey in the court-martial court-martial of Maximilian,' illlramon and MeJaL - i . In May, 1890. he became Aslsstant Secretary Secre-tary of the Ministry of Foreign Relations and held that position until his appointment appoint-ment of First Mexican Embassador to the United States. : The imperial house of Austria has always al-ways taken the position that Senor . Aspiros, As-piros, through his connection with the court-martial of Maximilian, was in part responsible for Maximilian's execution. " and during the early days of the service of Senor Aspiros st Washington this tact proved of keen embarrassment to himself and the Austrian representative. Finally .it was arranged that , when brought - - together at official ,' functions, these two diplomats should exchange formal greetings. This, however, was not until an embarrassing Incident had occurred oc-curred at tha White House dying the administration ad-ministration of President McRlnley, when the Mexican Embassador was assigned to escort to the dining-room the wife of the Austrian Embassador and the latter felt -.compelled to decline.- The Embassador is survived by a, widow and two daughters and his son, second secretary of the embassy.
