Show ' Shun of tbt Legislature. "TThe action- of the - House- of Representatives Wednesday in killing the bill providing for the sub-iinissipn sub-iinissipn of municipal franchises to a vote of the peo-jpk peo-jpk before they shall be granted INDICATES CLEABLY THE COTEMPT IN WHICH THAT BODY HOLDS THE PEOPLE. - - It is the House of Representatives in name only. IT REPRESENTS SPECIAL , INTERESTS. A'Sfj "NOT THE INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE. It does -the bidding of the large corporations regardless oi what injustice it works to the voters who elected its members. v , . AND THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ONE OF THE STATES OF THE GREATEST REPUBLIC IN THE WORLD, A REPUBLIC WHERE POPULAR POPU-LAR GOVERNMENT IS SUPREME. '. , , The members of the House wh voted to kill the bill should be ashamed to look their constituents in the face. They have voted against one of the best and wisest measures brought before tbem. . They could not say anything against it in debate on the floor of the House. They could not for they knew it was a good measure and that it should be enacted into law. THEY KNEW THEY WERE v DOING '' WRONG WHEN THE Y-KILLED IT. How must men feel to wear such a badge of servitude ser-vitude in this free country? What can they think of themselves? Th'ey have no excuse, no' defense. They have stood up in public and voted in a manner man-ner that shows-they are owned and controlled by interests that desire to benefit at the expense of the public: WHAT A HERITAGE TO LEAVE TO - PdSTERITY! : , The Senate, by killing off the.bill extending the terms of City Councils and other city officials for one year in part redeemed the reputation of the session just ending, but in the main the record of ' the Legislature has been a disgrace ' to - Utah. ; It would be a disgrace to any State. The only good that .cn come of it is that the people may become aroused and may put honest and upright men in the Legislature next time. ' |
