Show NEWHOUSE IS TO EXTEND HIS RAILROAD DENVER, Colo., Jan. 31. The Denver & Intermountain railway is to be extended to Idaho Springs, a distance of between twenty and thirty miles, according to the present plans of Samuel Newbouse, owner own-er of the road. The levels hai(e been run, and all that remains is for construction gangs to get to work. Grading, It Is declared, de-clared, wlU begin eariy in the spring. The reason for the extension is the discovery of a rich .ore body in the Newhouse tunnel tun-nel at Idaho Springs. The Saratoga vein was recently tapped, and this, together with the prospect of cutting other rich veins, led Newhouse to determine upon the extension. He wants to haul his ore over his own rails. The road will be electric and the power will be secured from a plant to be erected on Clear creek, water power being used to run the dynamos. The road will compete with the Colorado Colo-rado & Southern, hut there is no present sign of opposition from that quarter. The new line will start from Golden. All the hauling practically will be down grade, so far as ore Is concerned. However, a good passenger traffic Is one of the possibilities of the new venture. |
