Show WHY HARTENSTE1N SHOULD BE DEFEATED 3 Whatever may be the issue in other parts of the city, the issue iu the Fourth ward, in the' race for Councilman for the four-year term is HARTEXSTEIN. HARTEXSTEIN, a representative of fcihe people, pledged hini-wlf hini-wlf against the granting of the outrageous franchise demanded by the Utah Light and Railway company. HARTEN8TEIX violated his solemn pledge and voted for that . franchise. '.. HARTEX8TEIX has never been able to give a reasonable excuse for bis betrayal of the trust reposed in him by the people. HARTESTEIX lined up with the light and railway trust and . ly his:vote mortgaged the four principal public utilities for an addition addi-tion 4,000,000. without adequate compensation to the city. HARTEXSTE1N, by his vote, deferred municipal ownership of the lighting, heating, power and transportation utilities for not less than fifty years. i HARTEXSTEIX, by his vote, surrendered the right of controlling controll-ing the corporation to which these rights of the people have been transferred. i HARTENSTEIN played false with the people. The Utah Light and Railway company is working openly and ' above board for HARTENSTEIJTS re-election. If there were no other reason for his defeat, this should be sufficient to arouse the people of the Fourth ward to the point that this corporation-backed candidate will be buried under a mountain of ballots. There- are so many reasons why Hartenstein should be defeated that it is hard to conceive how he can receive any considerable support. sup-port. Iq view of conditions in that ward. The Telegram is convinced that all who are opposed to HARTENSTEIN, and what he represents repre-sents should, vote for W. MONT FERRY for Councilman for the four-year four-year term. |
