Even members of the Citj Council say too much criticism has been indulged. in of the ordinance ordi-nance pending in the interest of the trust, claiming that, "objectionable features" will be eliminated by the Council. , "Thus far not even the committee in whose hands the matter has been placed has taken "any steps toward' to-ward' amending the ordinance as originally presented pre-sented tor the Council, NOR HAS ANY ACTION BEEN TAKEN THAT WOULD INDICATE A PURPOSE TO CnANGE THAT ORDINANCE IN ANY LINE OR SYLLABLE. ' The Telegram has printed in foil the 'proposed ordinance,' as well as the letter of Manager Campbell Camp-bell in explanation and defense of the preposterous grab. These documents speak for themselves. If the irust has any other arguments to offer or propositions propo-sitions to make, it is painfully slow about bringing them to' the front. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE BElFORE THE PUBLIC OR THE COUNCIL. These documents furnish their own criticism and they have not been misrepresented by The Telegram. Tele-gram. The Telegram has deemed it its duty as a servant ser-vant of the people to point the dangers to their rights "which this franchise, grab threatens.- IT WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. Its mission is to keep the public informed and it will endeavor to do its work with all its might. The Telegram does not seek to inflame the people; peo-ple; THE FACTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. The people are aroused to the danger and they will RESENT ANY INFRINGEMENT OF THEIR RIGHTS. The eyes of the people are upon the City Council and the actions of that body will be jealously jeal-ously scrutinized.' If there, is danger that this measure will be rushed through the Council even in modified form, THE TELEGRAM WILL GIVE WARNING TO THE FEOPLE. It will rest with them fo bring such pressure to bear as will defeat the whole scheme. No amendment pr modification should be tolerated, toler-ated, f '.tV: THE WHOLE SCHEME IS ROTTEN ; AND SHOULD BE DEFEATED WITHOUT RE8ER-VATI0N: |
