Show MOTIOPf TO PROBE MAY BE EXPLAIHED CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 15. Harvard's astronomers expect to prove or disprove a new theory concerning the nebular hypothesis through the discovery dis-covery of the seventh satellite of Jupiter Jupi-ter by Prof. Perrlne of Lick observatory. observa-tory. The theory Is advanced by Prof. William Pickering in explanation of the retrograde motion of Phoebe, ninth satellite of Saturn, discovered ty him In March, 1899. Phoebe was found to be traveling in the opposite direction from any known satellite, and Mr. Pickering conceived the Idea that when first cast off It was moving In a retrograde motion, but as Saturn gradually .."keeled over," the planets' motion changed, until It was finally rotating directly. The tether satellites were thrown off after' this motion changed., but Phoebe maintained main-tained Its original motion from right to left. His theory Is that all the planets plan-ets have keeled over or are keeling over, Jupiter having nearly completed the process. |
