Show I I I Weather r Fools Fool Logan Plants In a communication received b by The Telegram last night from Logan Imil hans Harten superintendent of grounds and greenhouses at the tho Utah Agricultural college commented upon the budding at this un seasonal period perio of roses and nd shrubs and offered a means of at least partial prevention Mr Hansens Hansen's communication fol folI foIT foh I lows j I On account of the unusually mild weather at this time of year several I varieties of roses and shrubs have been budding Some of the tIme early varieties have already reached the danger point and if the the mild weather continues many others will also reach this point When the heavy frost does come these buds which have advanced too far tar will be greatly damaged and in some som Instances the entire plant may be killed In order to prevent this to some extent extent ex ox- tent the tho following methods are suggested suggested sug BUg in regard to the lower growing growing grow grow- growing ing varieties of shrubs and amI roses Place Ilace a heap of stable manure around the base of each bush and pile It up UI as high as possible around the branches If this is done tho the bushes will not freeze down any farther than the manure manure manuro man man- ure uro is heaped for protection In tho the spring the manure should be spread out and nd dug down lown around the plants If any parts of the branches have been left unprotected and consequently have been winter killed they should be cut ba back k as far as damaged It is Suggested that climbing roses be loosened from the wall vall to which the they are fastened and laid down on the ground and covered ered with f stable ble I manure anure descried In the Ule same sime nia r as above de described It is 18 s advisable able in In- addition to this to tie lower growing shrubs together tog and wrap them with burlap or other suitable material these should be un unwrapped un- un wrapped in the spring after danger clangor from frost is over |
