Show UTAH Will I GREAT Oil CENTER i j SAYS EXPERT Garfield Emery and Wayne Counties Promise Riches for Operators That Utah wilt soon have bave on one of t the greatest oil fields field in the West Vest and probably one of the greatest in America Ts ls Is the belief of ot C. C P. P Tasker prominent I geologist who has just returned r from the San Rafael and Green River oil fields In Garfield Wayne and Emery counties One of the fields the San Rafael which Mr l Tasker claims will be the biggest of the district was discovered by Mr T Tasker r himself l s The rn n new San ln Rafael field is s about sixty miles south of Green River It Is bounded by the Green river on the east and the San Rafael swell to the west on the north by the San Rafael river and by the Dirty Devil river on the south The new field Is about forty miles long and varies In width from six to thirty m miles The district reveals gs of three separate and Ids oil on sands at atthe ithe the south end of the fl field ld and nd on the west wall walt of ot Green river and In the canyons I r of the Dirty Devil river The upper oil sand lies feet teet below the escarpment at one ono point and Is feet thick Impregnated Impregnated impregnated Im Im- im- im with oil Under this lies fifty feet teet of oil shale un under er which la is the second see sec ond sand fifty feet thick heavily saturated saturated sat sat- with oil Then comes fifty feet of shale and limestone which Is the cap capor or 01 t roof for the th-e third sand fifty feet thick and the most heavily saturated with oil of all the sands Pieces from this sand sandburn sandburn burn bum furiously and the oil pours quickly from It under the heat Wells have already been located In Inthe Inthe inthe the center of the field by the Des Moines Oil company said Mr Tasker and have proved that there Is a considerable quantity of fine oil In the region but with Green River sixty miles mUes away and being the only company on the field we weAre were ire Are re unable to build a pipe line Not ot only Is the oil field a ne new nev discovery dis- dis covery but the o oil that h t can be taken l from Yih the field eis eiso Is also ls a ne new discovery c r All JAll tAll oils showed paraffin and seemed to be bet t unknown even by the best of oil menThe men The dark color misled everyone Ven Kven the most eminent of oil experts c pronounced the oil asphaltum base base where as thero there Is very little asphaltum as- as In it t no one has yet ret believed that the oil contains paraffin before test- test fine Mr Bates of ot the South Penn Oil 1 company said to me In Green River I latter after efter he had bad made an extensive trip over the I believe you ou have discovered I ia Is a new oil And nd from subsequent tests I 1 believe him to be correct The oil Is said to be rich in gasoline coal tar and is even said to cont contain n some 1 I The he sand of the district Is I also said to be very rich In oil l. l An analysis is of sam sam- i plea of the sand n b brought ra the h f following followings I O I t I report i from a local chemist The sand appears to be almost saturated saturated saturated sat- sat with oil is very dark In color and bas has a strong odor of the paraffin OIls ois t I Owing to the Incompleteness or of apparatus apparatus ap- ap j at hand a thorough h collection I land and separation of ot the the- oils oUs distilled could Snot not be made A very conservative estimation estimation esti esti- mation of ot the oil content of or this sample j would be at least 20 per cent The oil fl consists of heavy and light oils which could easily be separated by fractional f t distillation After standing a white subI substance sub- sub 1 I stance separated from the heavy oils which resembled naphtha This white substance Is about 2 25 per cent of the total heavy oils Coal tar is also present present pres pres- rent ent In considerable amounts estimated ilO 10 per cent I This preliminary examination shows this sample of ot oil sand to be ba exceptionally exceptionally exception exception- lally ally high In the paraffin oils These oils yield readily to distillation and tion thus making the deposit one ono of ot exceptional ex ex- I e merit melt BOSTON RANGE Badger
