Show GENIAL LIBRARIAN AIDS SEEKERS SEEDERS OF KNOWLEDGE SUGARHOUSE More than 1024 1021 books have hav been loaned to the reading In the Sugarhouse dis during the past 15 years by Mrs Eleanor Bartlett who Lc Is In her six six- year ear ns as librarian In the Sugar house branch The library a beautiful building constructed four years ago is ed In Sugarhouse park surrounded by lawns lawM flowers shrubs trees and a spacious playground for children Within the building one finds a large reading and reference room with shelves laden with more than volumes Also rac s of pens pers from several se sections o of the country and tables covered with all the current magazines ma a a rest room furnished with a comfortable loun lounge e and easy chairS chairS' miniature kitchen completely equipped a large room with an open fireplace piano and rows ot of chairs where the youngsters gather gath gath- er each Friday at p p. p m m. for their story hour and listen to stories told by either Mrs Bartlett or Miss Mary Elizabeth Eliz Eliz- abeth Cram who is seco second d assistant librarian The basement ot the build build- in ing has several extra rooms not in use at present and last but not least here the children have their own with row upon row of Cf books book's for them Friend and Counselor Mrs Bartlett Ls is a friend and imd counselor coun coun- to all who enter her sanctuary People come to the library when they are arc in trouble or worried to get solace from the many books book and magazines others come to get books to read to a friend or relative who is confined to tobed tobed bed b by illness man many come to take a book home to help them pass away long lonesome hours others take books of an educational nature to help them further their knowledge etc They come dally daily all types and classes and Mrs Bartlett and her assistants aid them in filling their needs Not long ago an elderly gentleman a 1 stranger to the librarians entered and said Mrs Bartlett my son on made me prom promise e that when I visited Salt Lake I would call to see sec you My boy has now grown rown to manhood and is superintendent suo su- ot of a mine in the southern south south- ern part of the state In his youth he was a steady patron of your library and from the books you suggested that he read he be gained a great deal ot of his education and now he asks that I extend ex ex- tend to you hIs sincere appreciation for the many kindnesses you showed him Through your our personal interest you helped him select books that not only aided him in his studies but books that led to his seeing the many beautiful things of life that can be round found through a proper course or of read read- inC Mrs Bartlett Bullett says The publIc Is our boss yet ct we must treat everyone everone as our guest and this we aim to do We have rules to follow and maintain and no doubt now and then we offend of of- fend some person We do our best to plea please e all and as long ns as we keep trying we will be doing our best Our daily work must be spiritual md and we aim to help people morally and bund build up mental development This we can do very often orten by suggesting reading matter to our patrons that lifts them by degrees into reading cl classics of higher education and literature liter liter- and through h this channel their development and education Is In increased creased Our patrons have meant much to tous tous us and have given us their wholesome support the same with the Business BusinessMen's BusinessMen's Mens Men's lea league ue and we feel grateful to all for lor their assistance Other librarians assisting Mrs Bartlett Bart Bart- lett besides Miss Cram C.-am are arc Mrs Frank Russel who Ls ic first assistant and has been with the library for the past nine nina years and Mrs James Sadler who vho is the part time assistant libra libra- rian |
