B Thurman 69 special assistant attorney for the department of justice and member of a family long prominent in Utah law died of a heart attack here in his office Wednesday Though he had made his headquarters headquarters headquarters head head- quarters in Washington since his appointment in 1935 to the department department depart depart- ment of justice legal staff which was made through the efforts of William H. H King then United States senator from Utah he maintained maintained main main- tamed his residence in Salt SaIl Lake City visiting there often A native of Utah Mr Thurman was born in Lehi November 7 1873 a son of Samuel R. R and Isabella Isabella Isa Isa- bella K Thurman When he was 10 years old the family moved to Provo where he received his elementary elementary ele ele- ele education He obtained his law degree from Columbia university university uni uni- in New York and moved to Salt Lake City 40 years ago to practice law His late father was a former state supreme court justice and he was the brother of ot Sam D. D Thurman Thurman Thurman Thur Thur- man Salt Lake attorney and Allen Allen Al Al- len Ien G. G Thurman former Third district district dis dis- dis court judge and now a special assistant federal district attorney Before beginning his law practice practice tice he was secretary to Senator Joseph Rawlins in Washington D. D C. C for six years During his entire career in the justice department department depart depart- ment he was in charge of litigation involving war risk insurance from I World war I. I Surviving are his widow Mrs Mamie Thurman and three children children children chil chil- dren by a former marriage James A. A Thurman Washington D. D C. C S. S Richard Thurman who resides in the tho cast and Mrs Frances Edwards Edwards Edwards Ed Ed- wards Washington D. D C. C four brothers Sam D.
