| Show r r THE REAL DOPE f By BILL COLTRIN You want to know the secret of catching fish which have been raised in a hatchery Abner Tanner who can claim the title of or Air Mr Deer Creek asked the old Real Heal Dope that question the other day over some sonic braised beef at lunch Use a red lure Lil Abner answered without even finding out if we twe cared a hoot about how to catch fish And then Abner went cent on to tell a wild talc and when we scoffed just the slightest bit he said to find Dave Wright the hatchery expert and ask him Sinco Since Dave wasn't too hard to find this was during the j convention of the Utah Wildlife Federation we did Love Those Red Cars t right Dave said Up at the hatchery you can drive a blue car around and nothing happens same with a black drive red car around that hatchery hatch- hatch But a car ar or a green car just I Iare cry ery and those trout will just about jump out of the water they are so anxious to get at it I Undoubtedly it is because most of their feed is red colored j but whatever it is they know red when they see sec it Coma ComS up some time and see sec how the fish act when a woman with a bright red coat walks around the ponds This will come as a horrible shock to those who say that fish are color But Abner says you can catch fish on ared a ared ared red lure at Deer Creek when everything else fails In fact he promised to prove it to us next summer up there and that promise will be kept Abner practically pledged us a limit next summer and that indeed will be an experience Better Feeling Shows Itself At the convention it was nice to see sec the better beUer feeling existing existing existing exist exist- ing between the sportsmen and the thc Forest Service It require the longest memory in the history of mankind to recall when these two groups were at odds At least the sportsmen sometimes complained about the actions of the Forest Service Service- Now it is beginning to be realized that the Forest Service isn't against the sportsmen or against the livestock people but instead must be for the public in general Service official We Ve have ha one big responsibility one Forest told us Saturday and that is to keep the soil in place in the national forests That Statement Makes Sense Stop and think about this statement a bit and it makes sense sense Keeping the soil in place means keeping enough plant life ife in the forests to hold that soil there And since big game and livestock eat cat off some of these plants the Forest Service must work to keep both big ga game and livestock at a number the forest ranges will stand This keeping the soil in place means that well we'll always ys have beauty that our streams will run clear and steady that our water will be pure and that the forests will remain a great playground playground playground play play- ground for everyone not everyone not just a hunting preserve for those of ofus ofus I Ius us who like to chase deer and elk If we have to have less deer in order to do all this then I every sportsman should recognize the fact that the forests do have ot other er uses We Ve can still have plenty of deer and have great hunting I without having them so thick they rU ruin I the forest for everyone |
